Beyond the Binary – A Conversation with Alex Jay Lynam

We spoke to Alex Jay Lynam, a non-binary business leader, who was happy to share their experience, thoughts and ideas to create better leaders and workplaces. Alex discussed their life, experiences, and the ways in which non-binary people can be excluded (and could equally be included) in the workplace.

We welcomed both LGBTQ+ people and allies to this event, all with the ambition to better understand non-binary, and to try to improve the ways in which they and their companies might work with colleagues, customers and suppliers.

About Alex:

Alex Jay Lynam is the founder of Beyond the Binary, a business that supports schools, companies, families and individuals around LGBTQIA+ inclusion through training, consultancy and public speaking so that everyone can be seen and heard unapologetically as they are.

Alex’s mission has been fuelled by a personal journey of self-discovery from their early teens of battling with the questions of sexuality and gender.  When they were unable to gain support or guidance, their mental health declined significantly resulting in substance misuse, toxic relationships and being arrested by the age of 22.  Alex has grown their self-love, acceptance and emotional empowerment so they can speak about their experiences as a non-binary practitioner to help bridge the gap of declining mental health for the gender nonconforming community.
