Homophobia and Representation – Hannah Bardell MP – spoke to LGBT+ Directors and Leaders
As an out lesbian MP and a recipient of death threats for reporting homophobia she experienced in Parliament Hannah’s support of LGBTQ rights is not just political, it’s personal.
In this meeting of the LGBT+ Directors and Leaders Network in UK we talked to Hannah about these experiences, about conversion therapy and the delays to the consultation to ban it in in the UK, and about the need for much greater representation of LGBTQ women in media and entertainment – a topic she is forming an All Party Parliamentary Group on.
Hannah has been the MP for the Livingston constituency since she was first elected in the 2015. She is the SNP’s Westminster Spokesperson for Consular Affairs and International Engagement. Before becoming an MP, Hannah worked in commercial television with STV Glasgow and GMTV, as well as working in the US State Department in the Edinburgh Consulate and the energy industry in Aberdeen.
