Leading with authenticity – challenges, opportunities, and tensions for LGBTQ+ managers

Professor Luke Fletcher will discuss the complexities of authenticity in the workplace.

Authenticity is often seen as a leadership ideal, but for LGBTQ+ leaders and managers, it can feel far from straightforward. What does it really mean to “bring your whole self to work”? When is authenticity empowering, and when can it be risky? How do you balance being visible with the responsibilities of leadership?

In this interactive session, Professor Luke Fletcher will guide us through the complexities of authenticity in the workplace. Together we’ll explore:

  • What authenticity and authentic leadership truly mean (and what they don’t).

  • Practical strategies to harness your authenticity as a leader or manager, while maintaining healthy boundaries.

  • The very real challenges and tensions that LGBTQ+ leaders face today—alongside the opportunities and benefits of being visible in the current socio-political climate.

Whether you’re an experienced leader, stepping into management for the first time, or simply curious about the role of authenticity in your career, this session is for you. Expect an open, thoughtful conversation with plenty of space to reflect, learn, and take away ideas you can apply in your own context.
